It's time to start thinking about cleaning your closets, garage, basement and attic! Our 2010 Riverfield Fall Garage Sale will be held on Friday and Saturday, October 1st and 2nd. Real estate agents, Debbie Witalis and Sally Falkowski will be sponsoring our sale. They will handle advertising, provide balloons for mailboxes and organize a charity truck to come around on Saturday afternoon to pick up what you have left at your home after the sale. We, usually, have about 25 families who participate. If you would like to participate this year, please email Debbie Witalis with your name, address and phone number. Tell her if you will sell just Friday, just Saturday, or both days. Also let her know if you would like the charity truck to stop by on Saturday and take away your "unsellables". 2010 Collection of the Riverfield HOA Fee

Your check for $135 made out to Riverfield Homeowners' Association should be mailed to the the home of our treasurers, Laura and Mike Thurston, at 5191 Staverly Lane . Our collection period is from Feb. 1-12. We ask that all residents consider this email and website notice as their bill to save us money on mailing notices to each home.

Late notices will be sent on Feb. 13th. Avoid the 10% late fee, and please pay by Friday Please do your part to keep costs and volunteer time to a minimum by paying by Feb. 12th.

2009 Membership Dues

It is time to collect the 2009 Riverfield Homeowners' Fee. This fee pays for maintenance of our front entrance lighting, fencing, watering, tree and plant landscaping. Expenses for web-hosting, legal counsel and an allowance for holiday decorating are also included in our annual expenses.

Our treasurer has informed us that watering restrictions enabled us to save some money in 2008, and this savings is being passed along to residents. We are reducing the 2009 Riverfield Homeowners' Fee to $125 this year.

Collection of the 2009 fee will follow the guidelines of previous years. Your check for $125 to Riverfield Homeowners' Association should be sent to the address below by Feb. 14, 2009. We ask that all residents consider the email notice as their bill. Another reminder email will be sent on Friday, January 30th and then midway during the collection period.

The official collection period is Feb. 1-14. Please bring your check by the home of our treasurer, Mike Thurston, at 5191 Staverly between the dates of Feb. 1st. and Feb. 14th. If you are doing on-line bill pay, please try to arrange for the check to be received by Saturday, Feb. 14th. Late notices will be sent on Feb. 16th. Please do your part to keep costs and volunteer time to a minimum by paying on time.

4400 Missendell Lane...The Samuels sold their home to Tom and Ellen Roper. They have two children. Devin is 11 and Karlie 8. The Ropers have joined the Club and are anxious to get involved!

4340 Missendell Lane...Liz and Jeff Bell sold their home to George and Lara Stickney. George is a pediatrician in the Lawrenceville area and wife, Lara, is currently staying home with their seven month old daughter. George and Lara met while he was doing his residency at Emory. They moved here from Decatur. Please stop by and welcome them to the neighborhood.

4425 Missendell Lane...Andi Curcio and her husband Glenn Kaplan sold their home to Peachtree Corners residents Mitesh and Archana Mehta. The Mehtas still own a home in North Manor and are getting it ready to go on the market. Dhavat, age 8, attends Simpson and daughter, Rijul, is in pre-K at Simpsonwood Church. Mitesh is an electrical/computer engineer. He manages and develops software for financial institutions. Archana has a masters in psychology and business administration. She is currently staying home with the kids until Rijul starts school full-time. The family loves going to the beach. Both kids are getting into swimming. We look forward to two more River Rats next year.

Swim Meet at the Riverfield Pool

Come cheer on the River Rats as they swim against Jones Bridge this Thusrday. Enjoy dinner at the concession stand. You do not have to be a Fields Club member to attend the meet. It's a great way to see neighbors and meet new friends while watching the kids ages 4-18 swim! The meet starts at 6pm and usually ends about 9:45pm. The final home meet at the Riverfield pool will be against Peachtree Station on Thursday, June 26th. If you just want to relax by the pool, and you are a Fields Club member, please use the Amberfield pool on swim meet nights.

Gwinnett Watering Restrictions

We are still under a level 4 drought alert. Hand watering with a garden hose is allowed for 25 minutes between the hours of midnight and 10am on an odd-even schedule according to the last number of your street address. Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday for house addresses that end with an odd number. Monday, Wednesday, Saturday for house addresses that end with an even number.

The use of sprinkler systems is not allowed unless you have a new install of sod, grass seed or plantings. If you have a new install, you are allowed to water three days a week for 30 days. Please review this procedure online. There are further restrictions related to new installs. One of those restrictions requires you to register at www.urbanagcouncil.com before using your sprinklers.

Welcome new neighbors Laura Magazo and her husband, Michael Clary. They moved into the former Pement home at the corner of Missendell and Riverfield Drive. They are expecting their first child!

We also welcome another young couple to the neighborhood. Marty Schmidt and his fiance, Becky are the new owners of the former BeMiller home on Missendell. Marty graduated from the University (sic) of Georgia and works in a family business. Becky is a nurse.

We welcome all three families to Riverfield!

Easter Egg Hunt

The Easter Bunny will lead our annual egg hunt at Riverfield on Saturday afternoon, March 15th, at 3:00. Bring your children with their baskets to gather eggs, play games, and enjoy some refreshments. The hunts will be divided by the age of kids, with the youngest going first. You'll need to drop off your forms and filled eggs at one of the houses listed on the flyer between March 12th and 14th. If you can help hide eggs on the day of the hunt, please reply to this email or check the box on your form. In case of rain on that day, we won't have the egg hunts, but instead will hold an open house so that you can come get eggs and visit with the Easter Bunny.

Your homeowners' association has negotiated a group discount for trash pickup from Atlanta Waste Industries. The Riverfield group discount rate is $45 plus $2.40 franchise fee for three months. There is also a one time $10 account setup fee and $10 trash can delivery fee. You will be billed by Atlanta Waste Industries every three months. Pick-up for trash, recyclables and yard-waste is every Monday morning.

My mailbox needs some TLC. What can I do?

Pay-the-Man Method (recommended)

Call Riverfield resident and NHS student Jonathan Hooper at (770) 447-9137. Jonathan's work has garnered great reviews!
The service includes rust removal, new paint including gold address numbers, and minor door/flag and plate repair, if needed. He will protect surrounding shrubs and flowers.
The cost is only $25.00

Do-It-Yourself Method

Remove all screws from the box
Remove numbers from box by prying gently with screwdriver. Lay numbers on newspaper, and spray paint with Gold "Rust-Oleum Metallic Paint". Note that the screw heads on the numbers are fake, so don't try to screw them off, unless you need to.
Use sandpaper/steel wool/wire brush to remove all rust from the box and rough up the surfaces for paint. Remove sanding dust before painting using a wet rag.
Spray with the reddish colored "Rust-Oleum Rusty Metal Primer" on any areas that were heavily rusted for maximum rust protection in the future.
Spray paint with black "Rust-Oleum Gloss Protective Enamel".
Replace rusted nuts/bolts with stainless steel 1/4"x5/8" and 10/32"x1/2" nuts and bolts.
If necessary, reafix numbers to box using a few dabs of pure silicone caulk. Do this with the number flag off the box on its side so the numbers dont slip while drying. The silicone holds well, but still allows the numbers to be removed in the future, if necessary.

What is the deal with trash pickup in Riverfield?

As of July 1, 2010, our garbage collection will be handled by Waste Pro. Our trash collection day is Friday. Billing will be posted by Gwinnett County on your annual homeowner's tax bill. If you would like to order optional yard waste pick-up, please call Waste Pro directly to arrange that service.

Call 678-376-6700 and ask for "dispatch". They will send someone out promptly to check it out for no charge.

Who do I call if a streetlight is burned out?

Call Georgia Power at (888) 660-5890. It should take less than 1 week for them to get out and fix it.
